Brown University Health: Newport Hospital, an affiliated hospital of the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, has an exciting opportunity for a clinical child/adolescent psychologist to join the renowned multidisciplinary team serving our brand-new Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit.
This highly specialized, state-of-the-art, 8-bed program provides acute care, comprehensive evaluation and intensive treatment for adolescents with serious emotional and behavioral problems. Every patient is evaluated and treated through a multidisciplinary approach. The psychologist’s roles include assessing clinical presentation, formulating the goals of treatment, contributing to collaboratively determined treatment plans and providing support to the milieu staff on implementation of programing. The psychologist will also engage with patients in individual, group, and/or family therapy as appropriate.
About the position:
Full- or part-time position treating adolescents (ages 12—18) and their families/caregiving systems.
Functions as a primary clinician providing diagnostic assessments, individual therapy, and family consultation. Oversees group therapy, provides consultation to the multidisciplinary team, and contributes to collaborative treatment planning.
Patients have a diverse range of presenting concerns, including depression, anxiety, PTSD/trauma, ADHD, and other externalizing and internalizing disorders. The models of care emphasize a family-based approach. There is a focus on behavioral stabilization, while also increasing coping and positive regulation skills, reducing self-harmful behaviors, and decreasing need for hospitalization.
Opportunities for teaching and supervision may be available within the broader system, with a Brown Medical School Clinical Faculty appointment.
Collaborative research opportunities may be available.
About you:
PhD or PsyD and clinical internship from APA-accredited programs
Postdoctoral experience with acute care for adolescents is encouraged
Licensed or license-eligible in Rhode Island
Team-oriented professional with a passion for working at the inpatient level of care, treating adolescents with complex psychosocial and/or diagnostic histories.
